Merck and co were stuck in an arduous decision when they discovered Invermectim and the bacteria behind it which was able to exterminate the problem of River Blindness and other extremities involved with it. Millions of People in the 3rd world countries especially those that were hot and humid were being affected by this Parasitic Illness which was caused by the bite of a fly whose larvae then hatched under the human skin which resulted in a very painful death unimaginable to a normal man. The decision on its research on human had to be taken by Dr Vagelos and I think that he should completely support and allow for the research of this compound into this problem as it would be a breakthrough for such a big problem that the world was getting affected by. Also it would make them the research gurus improving the overall brand standing of Merck and Co in the real world. I personally think that the profits that invermectim was making and the already researched Patents that it had guaranteed it enough profits and in return they should pay back to the people of the poor world by finding a cure for their problem. With enough research it could be sure that no complexities develop and as according to Utilitarian view of Ethics people should do what gives the highest return, I believe in it and think that by developing this drug Dr Vagelos is creating a positive result with a promised increased in brand equity and standing in the world.
