Michael Porters Value Chain Framework Lenovo

Firm Infrastructure
The Firm Structure component of the Value Chain Framework by Michael Porter includes general management aspects such as planning, strategizing, dealing with legalities, acquiring the right finance, managing public affairs, ensuring quality production, etc. Lenovo should ensure that all of these aspects are well taken care of prior to entering the new market, which is UK. The Structure of the firm being set up in the new market should reflect not only an understanding of the new market, but should also reflect an understanding and adaptability towards the way this new market works in the business environment.

Human Resource Management
Part of understanding the business setting in a new market, and reflecting this understanding, is subconsciously illustrated by the way a business conducts itself. An important way that this is illustrated is through the way the employees and workforce of the business are treated. From activities related to recruiting right at the beginning, through training and development, compensation and benefits of employees and managers, up to their retention, and then up to their retirement and pension plans, everything reflects the strength of a company in the market.

Technology Development
This is the age of intense competition, and technology plays a huge role in determining which business stays in the market and which must exit its existence off the face of the industry. Therefore, Lenovo, which has so far been up to the mark in maintaining the technological race, must continue to invest in innovation and technology development. As discussed earlier in the write-up, simply placing itself in the market as a high-end product will not win it the larger share of the market since consumers are always looking out for the next big thing in technology, convenience, and inexpensiveaffordable offerings. Therefore, value chain activities such as technology development, research, process automation, etc must all be invested in regularly.

Procurement
Raw material must be procured in a timely fashion, as well as it should be ensured that Lenovo goes for the best dealquote available in the market. Reducing the cost of production is a major component of costs which plays a large role in determining the overall cost of business. This is one aspect of the business that can make or break the business. Procurement of raw materials, servicing, spare parts, buildings, machines, etc.

Service
In order to maintain the product value and enhance the brand experience for the consumers, Lenovo should ensure timely and sufficient customer support, after sales services, training, and upgrading, etc.

Marketing and Sales
Lenovo should advertise their entry into the UK market and the introduction of its products through advertisements in both the print and electronic media. It should also tap into viral marketing, and brand development activities. Furthermore, it should pay special attention to pricing, and retail management, etc.

Outbound Logistics
In order to ensure that the finished product reaches the customers in a timely manner, Lenovo needs to invest appropriately in its outbound logistics activities, such as warehousing, order processing,  transportation etc.

Operations
Well-managed operations can help immensely in cutting down costs as well as lead times. This ensures customer satisfaction by not only cutting down on prices but also by producing quality results. Lenovo should ensure it does not lose focus of this aspect since it has just entered a new market.

Inbound Logistics
Receiving, storing, and controlling inventory, controlling transportation costs, and managing schedules, all are important aspects of inbound logistics and must therefore be carefully invested in and monitored if Lenovo wants to ensure that it does its homework well.
