Ethical Dilemma Handling A Potentially Explosive Situation

Ethical Dilemma Handling A Potentially Explosive Situation
The ethical dilemma facing Futuristic Electronic Technologies (FET) has, if not handled properly, the potential to destroy the name of the company. Although the fault would occur only a few times out of millions of retrieval and processing attempts, FET would suffer more harm if the fault was identified by our competitors, who may use the problem with our micro-system to sell their product.

Considering that the crisis arose because the micro-system was released into the market pre-maturely, I would propose that more, and thorough tests, are conducted on the microsystem to identify any other flaws. Predictably, these tests would cost FET money and time but I would insist that methodical tests be conducted, and solutions developed for the flaws. Individuals and organizations using the microsystem would still not be informed of the presence of flaws as such is likely to cause panic.

Assured that the original fault, and any other flaw spotted during the series of lab tests are corrected, I would plan for the release of the micro-system. To ensure that the presence of flaws in the original micro-system does not erode our customers confidence, I would propose minor adjustments to the brand-name used on the micro-system (for instance, adding the word plus would make the micro-system appear more advanced).

Finally, FET would announce the release of the micro-system, under the new label. The announcement would be accompanied by free offer of the micro-system to all existing users. FET executives would be sent to the existing users and deliver the micro-system for free, ensuring that the users do not incur costs in switching the micro-systems. At no one point would the users be informed of the flaws with the original micro-system.
